[Internet Explorer] [Netscape] [Full Installation]
[System Requirements] [Trouble shooting] [Extra Information]

Instructions: Internet Explorer
Click on 'Yes' when you see this
  1. When you click the Install button above, a new page loads, which immediately starts downloading the EonX plug-in (a file called eonx.cab).

  2. Once it is downloaded, a security warning dialog box (see right) will appear and you must click on Yes to continue installation.

  3. In the next step you will see a progress bar as the plug-in downloads the necessary EON components to show the small EON application.

  4. Finally a small 3D EON application is shown and installation is complete.

Instructions: Netscape
Click on 'Grant' when you see this

Click on 'Next' when you see this
Click on 'I agree...' and 'Next' when you see this
  1. When you click the Install button above, a new page loads, which immediately starts downloading "Eon For Netscape".
(Netscape 6 users will download an .exe file and then run it like a normal installation program.)

  2. Once it is downloaded a security warning dialog box (see right) will appear and you must click on Grant to start the EON Plugin for Netscape installation program. During installation you are required to click on a Next button, then choose 'I agree' to the license agreement and then on a Finished button.

  3. Next, back to the web page you need to click on the Continue button. This loads a new page where you will see a progress bar as the Eon plug-in downloads a small EON application.

  4. Lastly the small EON application is shown and installation is complete.

Note: These steps will be slightly different if an old EonX plug-in is installed or the plug-in is already installed or if you have Netscape 6. The plugin installation for Netscape 6.x is now the same as EON Viewer. If you already have EON Studio or any EON software installed on your computer read this.

Full Installation:
The Eon Plugin is designed to download components on demand. This means you only have to wait for the components that a specific Eon application needs. However, some viewers need a system administrator to install for them or give them permission to install. It is convenient for these viewers to install all components at once instead of "on demand". We recommend that system administrators download and run Eon Viewer especially if they are to install on more than one computer. Otherwise this full installation link will do. Full installation takes much longer but future Eon applications will load without delay.

Note: Netscape viewers must do the "EON Quick Install" installation above before doing this installation.

    Start Full Installation. (IE only)

When you already have the plugin installed and you want to upgrade it to a full installation then go to the Eon Full Installation Page.

System Requirements:
  1. Minimum requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium 166 MHz processor.
    RAM: 32 MB RAM.
Operating System: Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0 (service pack 3).
Browser: Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 4.51 or later.
Other: For a Windows 95/98 system DirectX 6.1 or later is required.

  2. Reccommended system requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium II 400 MHz processor.
    RAM: 128 MB.
Operating system: Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT 4.0 SP3/Windows 2000.
Graphics card: Nvidia TNT2 32 MB (OpenGL is recommended for NT system).
Browser: IE 4.0 or Netscape 4.51 or later.
Other: For a Windows 95/98 system DirectX 6.1 or later is required.

  3. Mac and Unix not supported.

TroubleShooting:
  1. Too solve almost all problems with the installation of EonX, dll versions etc, download the manual installation program called EON Viewer.

  2. Permission to install. WindowsNT and Windows2000 users may have security settings that prohibit you from installing programs. Often you need to be logged on as an administrator or have administrator priveledges.

    • For Internet Explorer, if you proceed to the next page and see a red X in a box to the left, it means you cannot download or install.

    • For Netscape 4, you can download the program and start installing before finding out you don't have permission. You may not even get an error message to that effect. There may be another error message. If after installing you click on a continue link and then nothing happens, this is another sign that you don't have permission to install. Unfortuneately the installation program may have allowed 2 files to be placed in Netscape's Plugins folder and this will cause another problem (see point no. 5 below). When you later get permission you will need to download again.

    • For Netscape 6 users, you can download an installations program to where you want, run it, and get an error message, which usually means you don't have permission but after you do get permission you won't need to download again.

    • One error message that usually means you don't have permission is "unInstaller setup failed to initialize. You may not be able to uninstall this product."

Ask your system administrator for help in getting permission or get them to install. System administrators are advised to install using the standalone program,
EON Viewer, because it will install all components at once instead of downloading components on demand which will require administrator permission each time.

  3. ActiveX Enabled IE. Default Internet Explorer settings allow ActiveX controls to download. If you have disabled ActiveX controls then EonX will not be able to download. To check, look under Tools Menu, Internet Options..., Security tab. (Applies to Internet Explorer only).

  4. Other programs running. One reason for installation failure can be that some files that need to be replaced cannot be replaced because they are in use. Therefore, it is best to ensure you have closed down other programs and browser windows when you install the plugin. This is especially true if you are running other browsers or EON software. If you get a message that you need to restart your computer then it usually means that you already had EON software running during installation.

  5. Netscape plugin exists but not EON. For Netscape, sometimes the web page will detect that EON is installed when it isn't. This usually happens when it was previously installed and then removed. It could even be when previously installed unsuccessfully (because permission to install in not granted except for administrators). The Uninstall program for Netscape 4 cannot remove the file npEonXPlugin.dll from Netscape's plugins folder. If this is the case, then you will need to install again and make sure you have permission (see point no. 2 above). You should remove the npEonXPlugin.dll before installing again.

  6. SmartUpdate Enabled. Netscape 4 users will use SmartUpdate to automatically download and install the plug-in. If nothing happens when you come to the next page then it probably means SmartUpdate is disabled. Therefore check that it is enabled by looking at your user preferences. See Edit menu/Preferences/Advanced/SmartUpdate.

  7. Uninstall and try again. If you have any problems with installation we recommend that you uninstall EON completely, (perhaps reboot) and then try again. If you need help in uninstalling any EON software go to the Uninstall EON page.

  8. DirectX. EonX requires DirectX 6.1 or higher. You can download the latest version from Microsoft's web site. For Win95 click here and for Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows 2000 click here.

  9. Email Support. If you still have problems then please write us an email describing the problem and including any error messages. Send you email to Eon Reality Support.

Extra information
  1. Manual Installation: EON Viewer. Instead of installation via the web page you can download our standalone viewer called EON Viewer. The advantages of this are you get all the EON components at once and you can install EON on other computers without an Internet connection. You can also view EON content without a web page. EON Viewer has all known EON components (dlls). Therefore we recommend system administrators to install this program on all computers to avoid problems caused by their users not having permission to install EON components, on demand, in the future. Note, for Netscape 6, EON Viewer will now attempt to install the 2 plugin files (see next list item) to Netscape's plugin folder.

    Download EON Viewer 4.0.1
    (11.6 MB)

  2. Attention Netscape Users! If you have EON Studio installed or you have already installed EonX on Internet Explorer then you only need 2 small files so that you can view EON in Netscape. Save these two files to your Netscape Plugins folder. Right click and chose "Save Link as..."

    Download npEonXPlugin.class
    (9 kb)
    Download npEonXPlugin.dll (65 kb)

  3. Plug-in Status. To check which version of the EonX Plug-in you have or if it is installed, goto our EonX Status page.

  4. Uninstalling EON. To find instructions on how to completely remove parts or all EON software from your system go to our Uninstall EON page.
